The magnolias in Boston are out in abundance. These beautiful trees are all over this pretty city and especially on Commonwealth Avenue. I can not think of a more perfect bloom. I once read that in ancient China, magnolias were thought to be the perfect symbols of beauty and gentleness. White magnolias are said to represent purity and dignity. I find it fascinating that these trees can live for a full century. As I stand here gazing at the ones on Commonwealth – mere babies in the grand scheme of things – I am sending up a little prayer that they will continue to grace Boston with their beauty and fragrance for that full hundred years.
