One of my favorite trends this season is the explosion of statement sleeves. The oversized shapes add varying degrees of drama depending on the size and color. I don’t wear a lot of black so I wanted to punch up this Max Mara dress with one of my favorite puff sleeve blouses (similar here). It also extended the life of the dress into the fall months.
Sock boots have been around for a few seasons now and are going strong. The sleekness of the silhouette plus the splash of color flatters lots of different pieces, from jeans to midi skirts. You may have seen tutorials on how to imitate a sock boot by using pointy toe stilettos and a pair of socks. It basically involves putting on your heel, fitting the sock over the shoe, and then cutting a little slit in the sock for the heel to poke through. I tested that today with this look. Overall I’d say it works well but here are a few things to know if you are going to try it:
1) The socks have to be stretchy but also very opaque. Otherwise you will see the shoe through the sock and it looks weird.
2) Be careful when you walk! A sock over the sole of your shoe does not provide much friction.
3) Don’t pay a lot for the socks as you will probably only get one use out of them. After a while they will start to run.
