Last weekend I took a little mini break to Newport, Rhode Island. Even though I live and work in New England and the East Coast, I still feel like a sightseer at times. I have fun visiting “touristy” places just as much as I enjoy the spots only locals know. This was my first time exploring The Breakers, the grand summer “cottage” of the Vanderbilt family. It has been on my list of places to see for quite a while – maybe because I have watched High Society more times than I wish to count. The inside is a bit grandiose for me. It is impressive to be sure but all I could think about was how much vacuuming it would entail! The grounds were my favorite. They are beautifully laid out and the view of the ocean was stunning, especially on such on such a perfect day.
Considering that we are nearing the end of October, the weather was absolutely perfect. It was even a bit warm with temperatures in the mid 70’s.
I wore a blue leather suit, which is one of my favorite vintage finds to date (and that is saying a lot because I have found some amazing things). I felt so Parisienne in this outfit and I love the matching mini skirt and jacket combo. The pieces had to be altered a bit: I removed huge shoulder pads from the jacket and had the skirt shortened. The skirt was originally ankle length. With the extra fabric I’m having another skirt made. Similar blue leather jacket here and a blue leather skirt here. I kept the Parisienne theme by layering my bright blue suit combo with a stripy tee and styled it with Zara mules and a baker boy hat.
