Have you ever been frustrated trying to find words to describe something that seems to defy the English vocabulary? That is how I feel in attempting to adequately portray the ice castles in Lincoln, New Hampshire. To say they were magical seems like such a cliché and yet there is no better word to depict the experience. Imagine a frozen world covering over an acre and soaring high above your head – all one enormous piece of interconnected ice. Lights wink on and off and turn the ice from blue to purple to pink and more. It’s surreal!

The castles are constructed by a Utah-based company. Lincoln, NH is only 2 hours from Boston and the location is one of only six in the United States and Canada and the only one on the East Coast. All together, the entire castle weighs more than 25,000,000 pounds. The crew grows roughly 10,000 icicles every day and adds them throughout the castle. In fact, the method used to construct the ice castles is patented.
