New Hampshire is a beautiful state, and it has so many interesting places to visit within close proximity to Boston. I recently traveled to North Conway in northern NH. The town is surrounded by over 700,000 acres of protected White Mountain National Forest, which includes the tallest peak in the northeast – Mt. Washington at 6,288 ft. I like to explore towns without an itinerary. The best thing to do is just start walking. North Conway was so pretty to wander through and definitely checked off the boxes of a quaint New England town.
I’m wearing a favorite stripy dress of mine (you can shop similar dresses here and here) with my go-to summer hat. Though I wouldn’t recommend hiking in them, these Tahari kitten heels are actually pretty comfortable. If you want something more practical, this pair still packs a punch.
I didn’t have time to do so on this visit, but next time I go back I’m going to be sure to take the Conway Scenic Railway. The circa 1874 train station is so cute and colorful! Vintage passenger cars from the 1920’s carry visitors (and well-behaved dogs!) through the gorgeous scenery of the White Mountains.
An absolute must if you are exploring the village is a stop in Zeb’s General Store. Before I went in, I couldn’t resist a picture by this antique gas pump out front! Expect to spend a bit of time wandering through to see everything – it’s a little crazy but full of intriguing objects and treats. From the candy counter to the New England-made specialty foods to the antique fixtures, it’s everything you would expect from a country store, but with a dash of whimsy.
