Tartans are classic. New archeological evidence points to the Celts having weaved tartans for over 3000 years. Talk about fashion that has endured. Tartans have a place from the sophisticated to the casual, but there is no better place to wear one than at one of the annual highland games held around the world. This one was at Loon Mountain Ski Area in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
It was once a crime to wear tartans in the British Isles. In 1745 Parliament passed “The Disarming Act” in an attempt to destroy the rebellious Clan System. The law was repealed in 1782 and there was a resurgence of Scottish nationalism and the use of tartans.
