Summer is about effortless style. The perfect pieces to wear are the ones that make you feel adventurous and relaxed, confident and comfortable, tough and romantic. This Free People tunic does that for me. In general this brand’s pieces have a bohemian ease about them that makes them ideal for summer explorations.

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with a little layering. On a hot day, it’s all about the fabrics and silhouettes. Light silks and chiffons are chic and also keep you cool. For this look, I paired my Free People tunic (similar here) with silky floral pants (similar here). Because the silhouettes are breezy and lightweight, nothing sticks to your body. It’s almost like wearing luxe pajamas.

With tunics you can play with proportions. I could wear this Free People piece as a short dress with lace up sandals. But as a tunic over flowy pants it takes on a totally different attitude. An easy way to try the look is with monochromatic separates, such as this slipdress over these pants.
