Irwins’ Winnipesaukee Gardens at the end of the boardwalk at Weirs Beach opened in 1926 and began a long history as a music venue on Lake Winnipesaukee in central New Hampshire, two hours from Boston. For decades it was the place to go and featured many of the big bands of the era touring the country in the summer, such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie. In later years even the Beach Boys rocked the Gardens. The music stopped sometime in the 60’s but Weirs Beach continues on as a summer destination for boaters and vacationers.
